Shade Gardens
A shaded area doesn't have to be dull. In fact, some of the loveliest plants thrive in a shady location. Hostas and ferns are some of the more popular shade plants and can brighten up a dark corner....
In addition to using these standard shade plants, we like to search out new and unusual plants and varieties. Some of our favorites include:
Variegated Fallopia
India Hawthorne
Hydrangea Brilliant Beacon (a variegated leaf variety with lace cap blooms)
Heuchera (Coral Bells) "Purple Ruffles" and "Purple Petticoat"
Including plants with variegated leaves brings a lighter look to a shady area and the purple foliage of these varieties of Heuchera add color even when nothing is in bloom. They also coordinate well with the blooms of other shade plants, many of which are in the pink/purple range.
